Lightning Detection and Earthing

The Lightning Detection System Laboratory is a research laboratory that focuses on real-time detection of lightning activities within Peninsular Malaysia. Initially, the laboratory which was established in November 1994, is responsible to operate and manage a Lightning Detection System Network installed in an effort to reduce impact of lightning caused disturbances to Tenaga Nasional Berhad grid system performance. To date, the network has collected more than 10 years of valuable real-time lightning activities data and has been providing services on lightning data analysis for the utilities and related industries regionally since 2003.

Our laboratory personnel have developed expertise in lightning, lightning protection, and earthing systems assessment and design for utilities assets applications through strategic partnership and collaborations with academia, research institutions and other related laboratories.
